No Continues the Conversation

We come to this conversation centering love, truth and logic, solidarity and Interconnectedness, liberation and freedom. And, with a deep desire to imagine, because we know a better world is possible.

While the county hasn’t led these conversations, numerous organizations have stepped in to create community spaces to talk about this: conversations at Dream City, including tonight’s, Tuesday’s conversation at the Iowa City Human Rights Commission, and the series of conversations at Great Plains Action Society.

It is never enough to make lasting decisions without a full table.

Even with the increased engagement of recent weeks, this conversation is incomplete. But we have heard, repeatedly from people across this issue, that there is a desire to aim for zero people in our jail — even if it is lifetimes away. We urge the community to engage in this work, and for voters to say “no” this November so that we can continue the conversation.
