I’m voting no to the new jail because a brand-new building with more beds than we need won’t actually get us closer to a world of safety, dignity, and care.

We should be investing in creating and supporting the incredible existing community systems that meet people’s basic needs (which in turn keep people out of jail). We should not be putting more money into systems and structures that were designed to punish, exile, and dehumanize our neighbors.
